Artist Statement

Giacalone is an artist who works across a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, textiles, and drawing. Her practice is rooted in experimentation, where she embraces the possibilities of different materials and techniques as a means to explore new forms of self expression.  Giacalone is interested in art as a tool for healing. In her work certain themes  continually emerge. One of her key interests is space. She is particularly interested in the role of blank or undefined spaces within her work. She believes that placing subjects in ambiguous environments invites viewers to fill in the gaps with their own emotions, memories, and interpretations In this way, the empty spaces in her work become a platform for personal reflection, allowing for deeper emotional engagement and instrospection.
